No injuries were reported, and the fire was brought under control just before 2am.

KUALA LUMPUR:

 Fourteen squatter houses and four commercial premises, including Mydin Mart and Pasaraya Karnival, were destroyed in a fire at Pantai Dalam here late last night.

No injuries were reported, according to Pantai fire and rescue station chief Wan Mohd Shahrir Azizi Wan Said.

In a statement, he said the Kuala Lumpur operations centre received an emergency call about the incident at 11.11pm, following which 36 personnel from the Pantai, Hang Tuah, Seputeh and Sri Hartamas fire stations were dispatched.

Wan Mohd Shahrir Azizi said the fire destroyed about 80% of the squatter homes on a 0.074ha site and the shop premises covering approximately 0.223ha.

“The upper levels of Pasaraya Karnival were totally destroyed, the ground floor of Mydin Mart was 20% burnt, while three adjacent shops were 90% damaged.

“The blaze was brought under control at 1.49am,” he said, adding that the cause of the fire was still under investigation. - FMT
