Former Selangor Menteri Besar Khir Toyo’s leaving Umno for Bersatu is a good riddance, according to Sungai Besar Umno division chief Jamal Yunos.
“I would like to thank Bersatu for opening their doors for this ‘broom’ guy.
“Now, Sungai Besar Umno no longer has a thorn (in its flesh),” he said in a Facebook post.
Jamal (above) was responding to a statement by Khir, who defended his move to join Bersatu by saying Umno is no longer a dominant party in the government.
Khir was a former Sungai Panjang state assemblyperson and a former Sungai Besar Umno division chief.
The news about Khir joining Bersatu was first shared by former Malacca chief minister Rahim Tamby Chik, who reportedly posted about it on Facebook yesterday.

It had since attracted many criticisms, including from Umno leaders who branded Khir as “broom man”, referring to a stunt the former Selangor Umno chief did in 2007 when he humiliated a district council officer by awarding him a broom.
Meanwhile, Umno supreme council member Puad Zarkashi said the party has nothing to lose with Khir’s exit.
He said Umno members, civil servants, and the rakyat had not forgotten the broom incident, which had “caused Umno to lose power in Selangor”.
Puad claimed that Khir left the party for Bersatu because he was frustrated with Umno for not nominating him as a candidate in the 15th general election. - Mkini
