Ampang PKR division chief Syed Ahmad Syed Abdul Rahman Alhadad has dismissed speculations that its new member Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz would be PKR’s next candidate for the Ampang parliamentary seat.
According to Syed Ahmad (above), better known as Altimet, the division believed it was still too early for the party to make any decision.
“We therefore leave the matter entirely to the top leadership of the party, in line with PKR’s internal democratic practice.
“As a progressive party, PKR emphasises that election candidacy is not bound by residential address, the location of the branch one belongs to, or positions held within the party, in accordance with the requirements set by the Election Commission (EC),” he said in a statement.
Adding further, the PKR central leadership committee member said they also respect a candidate selection process that is “transparent, fair, and takes into account the views of all levels of the party.”
It was reported on Friday that PKR has accepted Zafrul as a party member.
According to PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh, the party approved his membership application during a central leadership committee meeting on July 26.
The former Umno member had reportedly told the media that he had applied for membership with the party’s Ampang division.
Following this, there were speculations that Zafrul might be PKR’s choice as its next candidate for the Ampang seat, which is being held by Rodziah Ismail. - Mkini
