An ongoing internal Bersatu investigation has identified a senior leader as the "mastermind" behind a purported plot to collect statutory declarations (SDs) linked to alleged attempts at sidelining party president Muhyiddin Yassin.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, another Bersatu leader revealed that "witnesses" from among division leaders who claimed to have been contacted in connection with the SDs have named the “mastermind”.
"Yes, true. (The mastermind) has been identified. There are witnesses. Some admitted to having been contacted, and there are also recordings.
"The witnesses were among those contacted to sign the documents said to be the SDs," the source said when asked to confirm a Sinar Harian report earlier today that quoted Bersatu Youth chief Hilman Idham.
Hilman reportedly said the supreme council, as part of an investigation launched following the recently concluded 8th annual general assembly, had identified the "mastermind" behind the alleged plot which sparked a ruckus during Muhyiddin's policy speech last Saturday.

The source further revealed that other parties identified include division-level leaders who had allegedly moved to collect signatures across various states, as well as the individuals behind Saturday's commotion.
According to the high-ranking source, the "mastermind" was also the same person said to have requested a meeting with Muhyiddin to hand over the SDs.
Malaysiakini has contacted the leader who allegedly has the purported SDs and is withholding his name pending a response.
Conflicting statements
Separately, Berita Harian quoted conflicting statements from several Bersatu division leaders on the contents of the purported SDs.
According to the Malay daily, Ipoh Timur Bersatu division chief Fadhli Ismail stressed that there were no words or sentences in the SD that contained any form of pressure or suggestions for Muhyiddin to step down as president.
Fadhli reportedly said the document he distributed to Perak division leaders was only a "letter" that proposed a "power transition" plan, rallying support for Muhyiddin to consider empowering Bersatu deputy president Hamzah Zainudin ahead of the 16th general election.

The same Berita Harian report also quoted Ampang Bersatu division chief Isa Saidi, who contradicted Fadhli and claimed he had signed an SD calling on Muhyiddin to urgently step down as party president.
Both Muhyiddin and Hamzah, in their speeches over the weekend, made references to alleged attempts at ousting the ex-PM as party president.
The controversy arose after a poison pen letter alleged attempts to elevate Hamzah’s executive authority while undermining Muhyiddin, who is also the Perikatan Nasional chairperson.
At the end of Bersatu’s AGM, over 2,000 delegates from 202 divisions nationwide unanimously supported three key resolutions - adopting the president’s policy speech, backing Muhyiddin’s leadership of Bersatu, and formally nominating him as the party’s prime ministerial candidate. - Mkini
