KUALA LUMPUR: Students who have received offers to enrol at public universities and are facing financial or other difficulties have been urged to immediately contact their respective institutions or the Higher Education Ministry.
Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said that the priority is to ensure the students registered and continued their studies.
"To those who have received offers to enrol at public universities, if you face any financial or other problems, you can immediately contact the respective public university.
"The important thing is for you to register and continue your studies," he said in a Facebook post.
Earlier, it was reported that 82,092 candidates had been offered places in bachelor's degree programmes at 20 public universities this year.
Higher Education Ministry said in a statement that the figure represented 76.10 per cent of the 107,875 eligible applications received through UPUOnline for admission to bachelor's degree programmes at public universities.
A total of 1,146 bachelor's degree programmes are being offered for the current intake.
Higher Education Ministry said student admissions to the institutions were based on meritocracy, with all eligible candidates ranked according to their merit scores from the highest to the lowest. - NST
