Officials to probe video of Muslim performing non-Islamic ritual

Any action taken will be based on facts and preserve justice and social harmony, says religious affairs minister.

The religious affairs unit of the Prime Minister’s Department is working with the authorities to investigate video recordings allegedly showing a Muslim taking part in a non-Islamic religious ritual.

Religious affairs minister Zulkifli Hasan said the recordings purportedly show a Muslim carrying out acts “involving elements of worship and the use of certain incantations”.

Appropriate action would be taken, he said in a statement today. “Any action will be based on facts and the results of investigations by the relevant authorities to preserve justice and social harmony,” he said.

He said the government was firm in preserving the sanctity of the Islamic faith among Muslims. - FMT
