PETALING JAYA:
MCA president Wee Ka Siong says it is “premature” for Barisan Nasional chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamid to state that there was a positive outcome from yesterday’s discussion between his party and the coalition’s leaders.

In a statement, Wee said an agreement had yet to be reached, despite the cordial meeting with Zahid, BN secretary-general Zambry Abd Kadir and Melaka BN chief Ab Rauf Yusoh.

Wee said that during the meeting, he conveyed the party’s dissatisfaction with seat allocations for the Melaka state election.

“As for Zahid’s claim that the outcome (of the meeting) was positive, I believe we are still a long way from achieving such objectives and it would be premature to describe it as such.

“Both sides need to continue the discussions, and I hope we can make a breakthrough within the next day or two.”

Wee said that any decision on MCA’s next course of action and its final position regarding the state election would be deliberated and decided collectively by the party’s central leadership.

Earlier today, Zahid said MCA is not sitting out the Nov 14 polls.

The statement came following a walkout staged by MCA leaders when BN unveiled its candidates for the state election. The party was unhappy that seats it previously contested were allocated to other parties without proper consultation.

Zahid, however, declined to provide details of the meeting with Wee and said Rauf would announce them. - FMT
