Incessant rain, sometimes heavy, from Wednesday caused floods on Pulau Carey in the Kuala Langat district and forced the evacuation of 18 people from four families.
The Selangor Civil Defence Force said in a statement today that the evacuees, from Jalan Perepat in Pulau Carey, were being housed at the Taman Datok Hormat community hall in Teluk Panglima Garang.
They were moved out of their homes in stages from about 2 pm yesterday, it said.
The floodwaters had risen to 0.12 metre, it added.
Meanwhile in Johor, the number of flood victims in Segamat and Mersing stood at 118 as at 8 am today, compared to 95 last night, following continuous light rain since yesterday.
Johor health, environment, education and information committee chairman Ayub Rahmat said 28 people from seven families had been moved to the evacuation centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Air Papan in Mersing.
Another 34 from eight families were being sheltered at another centre, at Balai Raya Kampung Tenglu, he said in a statement here today.
He said a lane at Jalan Telok Arong (J214) in the same district had been closed to traffic due to a landslip; however, part of the lane was still accessible to the public.
In Segamat, 46 people comprising 14 families are sheltered at Balairaya Gemereh Balai Badang while another 10 from two families, at Balairaya Kampung Pogoh Tengah.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued a warning of adverse weather in the districts of Segamat, Mersing, Kota Tinggi, Johor Bahru and Kulai while Tangkak, Muar, Batu Pahat and Pontian districts are advised to be on alert.
School closed in S'wak
Sarawak had to temporarily close one of its schools, Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sungai Kelabit in Miri, after flood water inundated its compound.
The state disaster management committee said today that the affected surroundings included the school field, teachers quarters, generator shed and preschool.
The path to the school which has a population of 19 pupils, seven teachers and two administrative staff was also risky to use, it said in a statement.
It said four other schools, SK Kuala Kenyana, SK Kuala Bok, SK Sungai Bong and SK Sungai Anak were also affected by flood but able to operate.
