Aliran activist Sarajun Hoda Abdul Hassan has been arrested by police this evening.
It is understood that he was arrested by officers from Bukit Aman, and is being held at the Dang Wangi police station.
"The reason for his arrest is unclear but it is believed he was detained under Section 298 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act," the Aliran executive committee said in a statement.
"We call on the authorities to state the reason for his arrest and to allow him immediate access to a lawyer.
"He must also be allowed access to any medication he may need," they added.
Section 298 of the Penal Code punishes remarks with deliberate intent to wound the religious
feelings of any person.
