Travellers were forced to make alternative arrangements as there were no taxis at the airport since morning.
KUCHING: The taxi service at the Kuching International Airport (KIA) has been affected since this morning following a strike by taxi drivers.
KIA senior manager Mohd Nadzim Hashim said the action of the taxi drivers, however, did not affect the flight operations at the airport.
He said the flight operations proceeded smoothly without any problems such as cancellations or delays.
“The taxi service was affected since this morning as there was no taxi operating in KIA and passengers had to use other means of transportation such as the Uber or Grab service or call their family members to pick them up,” he said.
Nadzim said KIA had contacted the Kuching Taxi Owners Federation on when they would resume operations.
“They told us they are not sure how long the strike will last,” he said.
It is understood that taxi operators were holding a peaceful protest at the compound of the old state legislative assembly building in Petra Jaya here against the Uber and GrabCar service. -FMT
