Home Ministry seeks to maintain record of excellence

The Home Ministry will be focusing on eight aspects towards achieving the 25 key performance indicators (KPIs) set for the ministry this year, said Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also Home Minister, said that although the number of KPIs had been reduced as compared to 38 for last year, the excellent performance of the ministry will be maintained.
"The eight aspects will be the main focus of the ministry’s staff and the achievements attained so far will be sustained,” he said when launching the ministry’s KPI book for 2018 in Putrajaya today.
Ahmad Zahid said that among the eight aspects were strengthening and expanding initiatives to get closer to society for crime prevention and realising an improved level of perception regarding security among the people.
Also tightening rules and stepping up enforcement to tackle the problem of illegal immigrants and raising the bar on national security to combat human trafficking and trans-border crimes.
He said campaigns would also be held at educational institutions, workplaces, on social media and at the community level to raise awareness on the importance of crime prevention.
Correctional, rehabilitation and post-rehabilitation programmes would also be intensified in tackling repeat offenders where crimes and drug addiction were concerned, he said.
The deputy prime minister added that more efforts would also be made on preventing and controlling radicalism and extremism as well as tackling international terrorism.
Ahmad Zahid said the KPI book centred on upholding integrity in each action taken so that the image of the ministry was protected, with the strategy being out-of-the-box thinking and being security-minded among ministry staff.
"The key to our success to continue to stay ahead very much depends on how all of us view the rakyat (people), customers and clients in a bigger way and are constantly moving from thinking outside the box to thinking without the box,” he said.
