PAS, PKR tell Permatang Pauh voters not to vote for the other

The Permatang Pauh parliamentary constituency is proving to be a tough battleground for PKR as its former ally PAS becomes the third force in the coming 14th general elections.
Today, a PKR Permatang Pauh leader urged voters in the parliamentary constituency and the entire country not to vote for PAS as any support for PAS would only extend Umno's lifeline, and prolong the party's power over the nation.
"While the people are burdened with the rising cost of living, and want to see a change in the country's leadership, PAS appears to be a stumbling block to change," said Permatang Pauh PKR information chief Mohd Shukri A Hamid in a statement today.
"Every day the country's assets are at stake, and PAS does not seem as if they want to oppose or criticise the Umno leadership, but they seem to be more and more intimate with them," he added.
"We vote to send our voices to Parliament, not to go there and choose to be neutral," he quipped.
"It is only right that our president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail says that perhaps PAS wants to keep Najib Abdul Razak as PM, and BN as the government".
Shukri's remarks come after PAS' Permatang Pauh information chief Jamsari Samad strongly chided the recent statement by PKR president Wan Azizah (photo).

Wan Azizah was quoted by The Malaysian Insight yesterday as saying, "I feel that maybe PAS, when its secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said that appointing an interim PM is not in line with the federal constitution, they want to keep the current PM."
"That is why they have praises, I do not know, this is just speculation," she said, referring to Najib's compliment to PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang that he was a good opposition leader, unlike Mahathir.
PAS ready to battle all sides
Irked by the remark, Jamsari said PAS Permatang Pauh is ready to battle with Umno, BN and PKR in Permatang Pauh in GE14.
He urged Wan Azizah "to look into the mirror" before condemning others, as it is PKR who will continue to maintain Umno in power by working with her husband Anwar Ibrahim's former enemy, Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

"I wish to advise her to stop using the politics of sympathy to twist and turn to confuse the people as the Permatang Pauh people are sick of it," Jamsari said in a statement published on Facebook.
Jamsari then went on to advise Permatang Pauh voters not to vote for PKR as the party has shown that it is inconsistent in its fight against cruelty and misappropriation of funds by Umno leaders.
PAS: Umno the same under Dr M or Najib
Jamsari said that Umno during Mahathir's rule is no different from Najib's as both administrations were plagued by corruption.
However, Shukri pointed out that Jamsari's remark differed from PAS ulama chief Mahfodz Mohamed's that Umno is no longer the party it was before, and PAS has no reason to be close to Umno.
Shukri said it is PAS who is inconsistent in their struggle as their statement in Permatang Pauh differed from the stand of their central party leaders.
"It is no wonder that Umno and BN are very interested in seeing PAS become the third force, who will compete in three-corner fights with Harapan in GE14," Shukri said.
"It is right for us to say that PAS wants to keep Najib as Prime Minister and BN as the federal government," he added.
Shukri reminded that history has proven that three-corner fights in national polls or by-elections would only benefit Umno, as was evident in Kota Damansara, Selangor and Sungai Acheh, Penang, in the 2013 polls.
"To ensure the people reclaim their rights, the fight to end BN's rule is a 'sacred' (murni) one," said Shukri.
"Any effort to ensure Najib ad BN lose in the coming polls is much welcomed and needed," he added.- Mkini
