Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak today said the opposition should help promote BN's affordable housing schemes.
"To these people, instead of spreading fake news and slander to sully the government, do something beneficial by promoting the housing schemes to the people - at least it will help those who want to own their own homes.
Don't oppose everything simply because you're the opposition... Even though the opposition may not be able to execute (such schemes), at least introduce the people to those who can do it, namely BN," he said in a blog posting today.
Similar programmes exist in states control by the federal opposition, such as the Rumah Selangorku and Penang Affordable Housing Scheme (PMM).
In the blog post titled "housing for all" Najib touted the federal government's various schemes to help people own a home.
He pointed out that under Budget 2018, RM2.2 billion was allocated for this purpose.
Among the initiatives for the B40 group were the People's Housing Project, Rumah Mesra Rakyat 1Malaysia programme and the Rumah Idaman Rakyat programme.
For the middle class, Najib said there was the 1Malaysia Housing Project (PR1MA), Federal Territories Housing Project (Rumawip) as well as the 1Malaysia Civil Servants' Housing Project (PPA1M).
He said this was on top of other schemes such as the My First Home Scheme that provided 100 percent financing and the MyDeposit scheme which provides a 10 percent subsidy on the purchase price of a first property up to RM30,000.- Mkini
