A-G’s Report: Inefficient menu management at Jais-run schools

Students were not provided with the required nutrients, and the quantity of food was not satisfactory, report says.
SHAH ALAM: Students at the Maahad Tahfiz Integrasi Sains (MITS) run by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) were not provided with the required nutrients thanks to the inefficient management of menu there, the Auditor-General’s Report 2017 Series 1 revealed.
Based on interviews with MITS supervisors, the change of menu at all schools was made through verbal consensus between MITS principals and contractors, with no guidelines provided by Jais for reference.
According to the report, one reason for the change of menu was the wastage of food as the food served was not to the satisfaction of a majority of students.
Based on a survey conducted on 963 students at four MITS in Klang, Sabak Bernam, Kuala Langat and Sepang, it added, 885 respondents said the quantity of food supplied at the school was less than satisfactory.
Feedback on the environment and monitoring of the dining hall also showed dissatisfaction among students.
Jais had responded on April 19, saying measures had been taken to resolve issues such as the lack of menu boards and dumping of unused items, and the problem of flies and birds as well as the overflow of water from drains.
Jais also said that beginning May 2018, the principal of each MITS had ensured that the monitoring of the dining halls was done by the hostel supervisor and warden. -FMT
