'A mistake' - Tajuddin likens bid to repeal GST to BN's fate in GE14

PARLIAMENT | BN's ouster in the 14th general election was a “mistake” that should not be repeated with the repeal of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), says Tajuddin Abdul Rahman (BN-Pasir Salak).
He said this when debating the Services Tax Bill 2018 in the Dewan Rakyat today, which together with the Sales Tax Bill 2018 is set to replace the GST system.
"If you have problems with the implementation, you fix the implementation. It's not the system. Don't change the system.
"If you don't like the elected representative, you don't change the elected representative.
"You don't change the party (in power). That was a mistake," he said.
This elicited laughter from government backbenchers who pointed out that voters chose to change the government.
Tajuddin then took aim at Steven Choong (Harapan-Tebrau), demanding that he address Tony Pua's (Harapan-Damansara) claim yesterday that accountants profited from the implementation of GST.
"Are you an accountant? You are? I want to hear your response to the allegation by Damansara that you made a lot of money from GST. Answer the question," he said.
Choong, who appeared amused, replied: "That's not true".
Earlier, Choong had said that delays in GST refunds had led businesses to increase their prices.
This prompted Tajuddin to say the government should fix these problems instead of completely abolishing the GST. -Mkini
