Umno secretary-general Annuar Musa had explained his acerbic remarks to former premier Najib Abdul Razak, according to a party source.
The source said the Ketereh MP met Najib at the latter's residence in Langgak Duta, Kuala Lumpur, this morning.
"Najib was clearly upset with Annuar (over the article) but he cleared the air and explained the 'correct' version to Najib," he added.
Contacted later, Annuar claimed The Malaysian Insight, which quoted him as describing the former premier as a “baggage” which Umno could ill-afford to bear, had twisted his statements.
The Umno leader said he raised this issue with the news portal, which agreed to make amendments.
However, he did not wish to disclose which parts of the interview were taken out of context as he did not want to get involved in polemics.
"I have no qualms about working with the media (granting interviews) but I hope they observe certain ethics - no more, no less," he said.
Annuar claimed that the article contained words like “attack” which he did not utter during the interview.
In the article, he was also quoted as stating that Umno should not waste time defending its former president, who is facing seven charges of criminal breach of trust, abuse of power and money laundering. - Mkini
