Anwar: I don't use words like 'barua'

PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim has denied being the voice behind audio recordings critical of party deputy president Azmin Ali and Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
"I don't use rude words like 'barua' (lackey) [...] as fierce as I am, I don't use words like 'barua'," Anwar said when met by reporters in Bandar Puteri, Selangor this evening.
He added the audio clips in question were probably part of an unhealthy political game ahead of the upcoming PKR elections.
"It is unhealthy [...] they should fight me ouut in the open," he said.
He also said that PKR members aren't gullible enough to be fooled by the recordings.
Earlier today, three audio clips each less than 10 seconds long were circulated through WhatsApp.
The recordings featured a man who sounded similar to Anwar denouncing Azmin as a 'barua' (lackey) to Mahathir.
The recordings also criticised Mahathir's recent decision to appoint himself Khazanah Nasional chairperson and also dredged up the 1990s Bank Negara forex scandal.

Anwar said he had made no speeches after the Khazanah appointments on Monday save for those when on the Sungai Kandis by-election campaign trail.
Last year, Anwar had also testified during the royal commission of inquiry into the forex scandal during which he said Mahathir had not given any instructions for Bank Negara to dabble in the forex market.
The recordings emerged amid speculation of a rift between Anwar and Azmin as well as allegations that Mahathir and his allies are purportedly attempting to impede the PKR de facto leader's political advancement. - Mkini
