Beware Of Some Tricks At The Money Changers

For those of you who need to change money please note something about US Dollars.

Thats a Ben Franklin above aka a US$100 note. In the zoomed picture note the words Series 2006. This means the note was printed since 2006. There are also Ben Franklins printed before 2006, ie there is a 1996 series too.

All these series are legal tender in the United States.

The local money changers however are refusing to accept USD notes printed before 2006. They say these are "old notes".

I think Bank Negara should look into this to see if it is true.

(By the way I asked a senior EPF lady about restrictions on withdrawing EPF funds AFTER age 55. She confirmed that the ruling came into effect ONLY in Jan 2018, this year. Those post 55s must wait till you are 60 to withdraw any contributions you made after age 55. Why? Apa basis? Did the EPF inform the public BEFORE THEY CHANGED THE RULES? At least give the post 55s some time to withdraw their savings BEFORE the new rule came into effect in JAN 2018? Jangan buat ikut suka hati.)

Coming back to the USD notes, the local money changers are still pushing into the market the "old" 1996 USD notes.

This happened to me recently. The money changer sold to me the "old" 1996 notes. I could not change it back. Two other money changers did not want to accept the Series 1996 "old" notes.

I had to go back to the guy I bought it from who did accept it but with some reluctance. He said, "because you are old customer". I have only been to his premise once in my life.

I think this is being dishonest. BNM please look into this small matter. The country is FULL of small matter bullshit like this.

Like the Immigration refusing to give out application forms. Same attitude.

  1. Dear Mohd Kamal, the money changers are doing the business as well..they will not buy something which can not be sold because that is the way that earn money by buying and selling of currencies.

In your case if someone sold you 1996 series, it may be one in thousand and most money changer do not buy and sell those series.

Actually problem is not the money changer but customers who are very particular when buying the foreign currencies as they want to buy only clean and good notes due to a fear of not being able to use overseas.

So there are no tricks by the money changers...it is reality
