Cops arrest nanny who pinched crying baby

Hospital staff alert police after the mother sought treatment for bruises on the chest of her 10-month-old infant.
GEORGE TOWN: A 33-year-old nanny has been arrested after confessing to pinching a 10-month-old baby boy to stop him crying at a nursery in Kepala Batas yesterday.
Police said the woman repeatedly pinched the baby’s chest until it became swollen with bruises.
North Seberang Perai district police chief ACP Noorzainy Mohd Noor said the mother of the infant received a call from the nursery at 10am yesterday, saying there were bruises on the chest.
He said after the baby was taken to the Kepala Batas Hospital, the doctors alerted the police immediately as there were signs of abuse.
“Following our interrogation, one of the nannies confessed to having pinched the baby as it was crying non-stop. A four-year-old boy witnessed her pinching the baby,” Noorzainy said.
He said fortunately, the baby was not seriously hurt and the suspect would be investigated under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001 for abuse.
The Magistrate’s Court in Butterworth has allowed a remand of five days from today for investigation. -FMT
