The PKR vice-president, who is contesting the deputy presidency in the upcoming polls, says divulging the developer's identity could lead to interference in the election.

KOTA KINABALU: PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli has agreed with the decision of the party’s election committee not to reveal the identity of the software developer for the e-voting system to be used in the upcoming party polls.
Rafizi, who is gunning for the position of deputy president, said divulging the developer’s identity could lead to interference in the election.
“If you know (the identity), there might be pressure (and) people might approach them. It might actually compromise the whole process,” he said after a PKR function here yesterday.
He said he was unaware of the precise reasons behind the committee’s decision but voiced confidence that its members had done the right thing.
“It’s entirely their decision and frankly speaking, we don’t have a say. By principle, I’m not supposed to interfere and I keep my opinion to myself because I’m contesting.
“(But) it’s best if the contesting leaders don’t know who these people are if we have faith in the integrity of the committee,” he said.
PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail previously said there were no plans to reveal the identity of the software developer.
He said this was part of the party’s internal preparations for the polls, and that the important thing was for the PKR leadership and the political bureau to be briefed on how the system was developed as well as who would be appointed as the independent auditor.
When asked if the developer’s identity would be revealed in the interest of transparency, Saifuddin said this was for the party’s election committee to decide. -FMT
