Felcra Bhd has filed a defamation suit against Youth and Sports Deputy Minister Steven Sim and DAP’s Roketkini editor who was unnamed. Sim is also the Bukit Mertajam MP.
This is over an article that appeared on March 12 titled "Peserta Felcra rugi RM600 juta setahun akibat urusniaga haram?" (Felcra participants suffer RM600 million losses annually due to illegal trading?)
The suit was filed at the Kuala Lumpur High Court registrar, by Omar Ismail Hazman & Co on June 6.
According to its statement of claim, Felcra claimed the article is defamatory and false, as it depicted Felcra as being involved in illegal trading with a third party which resulted in losses, and that it violated the sale of oil extraction rate (perahan minyak sawit) by imposing a rate that was lower than the minimal rate.
It claims the article alleges that Felcra is untrustworthy and irresponsible, and that the company acted mala fide to profit at the expense of the Felcra participants and had caused losses of RM600 million.
Felcra claimed the article, that quoted Sim, had tarnished the company’s reputation.
It further claimed that the article was published without being supported by strong facts and caused confusion. -Mkini
