The doctor charged with causing the death of Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's son-in-law Syed Alman Zain Syed Alwi, two years ago, was today acquitted by the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur, without having his defence called.
Sessions judge Zaman Mohd Noor said there is no prima facie case on Dr Ting Teck Chin, who is an Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G) doctor.
Ting was charged with causing the death of Syed Alman, at the Imperial Dental Specialist Centre in Bangsar, on June 1, 2016.
Syed Alman was married to Zahid Hamidi's eldest daughter Nurulhidayah.
According to Ting's lawyer K Kumaraendran, the court took into consideration, two conflicting testimonies by two experts.
The court also found that the doctor had handled two similar cases prior to Syed Alman's case, thus he is competent, and that the guidelines allow him to perform moderate sedation.
It was ruled that Syed Alman had died due to an allergic reaction to the sedative administered to him, which the court heard was an extremely rare occurrence. -Mkini
