Halimah rubbishes PH man’s claim of silent support among PAS members

She says the 'silent voters' have 'woken up' since Pakatan Harapan's election win on May 9.
PAS’ Seri Setia candidate Dr Halimah Ali.
PETALING JAYA: PAS’ candidate for the Seri Setia by-election Dr Halimah Ali yesterday dismissed her opponent’s claim that he had the backing of “silent” PAS supporters in the constituency.
Halimah, who is contesting against Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) Halimey Abu Bakar, said this might have been the case before the May 9 general election, but not any longer.
“Halimey doesn’t understand that after PH came into power at the state and federal levels, the so-called silent voters also woke up,” she told reporters here.
She added that the by-election on Sept 8 would be the best chance for voters to remind the ruling PH coalition of its election pledges and obligations.
“This by-election is no mere election. It gives the people who are aware of PH’s performance the chance to say, ‘We are aware of what you are doing, so don’t take us for granted’.”
The Seri Setia by-election was called following the death of assemblyman Shaharuddin Badaruddin on Aug 2 due to colon cancer.
It will see a straight fight between Halimey, a former Petaling Jaya City Council member, and Halimah, a former Selangor state executive councillor and former assemblyman for Selat Klang. -FMT
