In historic move, DAP opens first Putrajaya branch

In the past, Umno leaders vowed to defend Putrajaya till their last drop of blood from the then-opposition coalition.

Umno often claimed it is the predominantly Chinese DAP which called the shots in Pakatan Harapan in an attempt to stoke fear in the hearts of the Malay electorate.

DAP leaders like Lim Kit Siang repeatedly assured Malay voters that Harapan would respect the position of the Malays and Islam if it formed the federal government.

However, on May 9, 2018, Putrajaya fell - ironically, into the hands of the same man who had conceived the grand and opulent administrative capital, Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

And now, DAP has opened its first branch in what would have been considered behind enemy lines just three months ago.

Describing this as a historic move, DAP national chairperson Tan Kok Wai said the party had received 50 membership applications for the Putrajaya branch.

He also said most of them are former senior civil servants who believe that DAP is a party which can be trusted.

“We did ask them - 'Why join DAP?'

“They said they agreed with our political commitment multicultural democracy. After observing us, they don't see us as a Chinese chauvinist party.

“Some of them have Datuk Seri titles, some are CEOs. But there are no existing civil servants,” he added.
