Kadir Jasin to be named PM's new media adviser

Veteran journalist A Kadir Jasin has joined the Prime Minister's Office as a media and communications adviser.
It was learned that Kadir received his appointment letter in late July and that an official announcement will be made soon.
When contacted, Kadir confirmed receiving an offer to be the prime minister's "special adviser" on media affairs, but declined to comment further pending an official announcement.
He was formerly the group editor of the New Straits Times and is widely believed to enjoy close ties with Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Kadir also sits on Bersatu's supreme council, which Mahathir chairs.
In the early days of the Pakatan Harapan administration, Kadir served as the spokesperson for the Council of Eminent Persons which was formed on May 12.
However, he resigned less than a month later, after complaints were raised over his blog post which touched on the monarchy.
Kadir said that he stepped down to avoid causing embarrassment and confusion, as many had linked his personal views with the council. -Mkini
