KUALA LUMPUR: Several main roads in Putrajaya will be closed with traffic diverted in stages from tomorrow until Aug 31 in conjunction with rehearsals for the National Day celebration.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Mazlan Lazim said the road closures and traffic diversions would begin at 6am and continue until the event is over.
The affected roads are Laman Perdana, Persiaran Perdana, Lebuh Wawasan, Lebuh Saujana, Lebuh Bestari, Lebuh Setia, Jalan Perpaduan, Jambatan Wawasan, Jalan Pembangunan, Jalan Kemerdekaan and Jalan TA Rahman.
“Some 6,000 public parking lots have been provided,” he said. “To make it easier for the public to go to the venue, shuttle buses will also be provided at certain pick-up points and drop-off zones.
“This celebration will be enlivened with parades and marches by the Royal Malaysian Police, the Malaysian Armed Forces and other agencies with 300,000 people expected to be present,” he said in a statement yesterday.
He said 1,351 police officers and personnel had been assigned to ensure public safety and smooth traffic throughout the celebration.
“The police hope for the cooperation of the people in complying with all instructions and advice given so that the National Day celebration will proceed smoothly,” he added. -FMT
