MCA President Liow Tiong Lai has said his party is open to working with all opposition parties, including PAS, in the Balakong by-election.
“We will work with every party regardless of which component (they are part of).
“The most important thing is they are an opposition party,” he said at a press conference after launching the party’s operation room in Balakong today.
"The opposition pact has to work together to fight the government, because the government has not fulfilled many promises,” he claimed.
When asked if he was open to working with PAS, he said yes, as long as they were on the same page.
“(We will work with) anybody who has the same agenda, any party that has the agenda to check and balance the government,” he said.
Admitting the party was an underdog in the Sept 8 by-election, he urged voters to “give MCA a chance” to have a voice in the Selangor legislative assembly.
Pakatan Harapan parties dominate the Selangor assembly with 51 of the total 56 seats. Umno holds four seats while PAS has one.
“Every vote for MCA means we can check and balance the state government (better),” Liow said.
He also said MCA has thus far shortlisted four candidates for Balakong, and will announce its final decision before nomination day next Sat (Aug 18).
MCA, who will be up against DAP in the by-election, announced yesterday that it will be ditching the BN “dacing” logo for its own logo for the first time since 1959.
The by-election was called following the death of DAP incumbent Eddie Ng in a car accident.
PAS received more votes in the Chinese-majority seat than MCA in the recent general election, garnering 6,230 votes to MCA's 5,874.
DAP won the seat with 41,768 votes, and a 35,538 margin. -Mkini
Then Liow you should change your name to Mr Kafir. Even so i still hv doubt PAS will still accept you. Just close shop MCA. It will save you frim further embarasment. MCA is irrelevant to chinese community and maybe to Malaysian. 10 yrs has pass your party is reduce to ashes. Wake up kafir.
