Najib: Saudi will be upset with Malaysia for scrapping King Salman centre

The Saudi Arabian government will be upset with Putrajaya's decision to scrap the Saudi-backed King Salman Centre for International Peace (KSCIP) project, said former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.
"The centre was proposed by the Saudi government, in fact by King Salman himself, that's why the centre was named after him," he told media at the Parliament lobby.
"We received this as a good effort as they had chosen Malaysia instead of many other countries," he added.
Putrajaya has now chosen to reject assistance from the Saudi government which has good ties with Malaysia, said the Pekan MP.
"They are good to us and gave us lots of special consideration, (I think) they will be upset," he noted.
On Sunday, Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu announced that the KSCIP, which was supposed to have been built on a 16-ha plot of land in Putrajaya, has been cancelled.
Mohamad said the KSCIP's temporary office at Menara HLA in Jalan Ampang would be closed immediately.
The KSCIP was an initiative by Najib's administration to collaborate with Saudi Arabia, to counter the influence of extremism and terrorist activities, as well as promote universal peace. - Mkini
