Penang PKR chief Mansor Othman believes that having Anwar Ibrahim and Azmin Ali as president and deputy president would be ideal.
As the "strongest party" in Pakatan Harapan, Mansor said, PKR needed a capable leadership.
"Therefore, the combination of Anwar and Azmin is the most ideal partnership in the current political scenario.
"This is because the party is not only facing challenges from within but also external challenges," he added in a media statement.
Mansor said PKR required experienced leaders who were loyal and with an excellent track record to address these challenges.
The forthcoming PKR leadership elections are expected to witness intense fireworks due to speculation that Azmin might challenge Anwar for the president's post.
Azmin, who is also economic affairs minister, has promised to reveal his plan after tomorrow's Sungai Kandis by-election.
He has also been accused of being aligned to Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his allies, who purportedly want to prevent Anwar from taking over the nation's leadership reins.
Azmin, who served as Anwar's former political aide and fought alongside him following the fallout with Mahathir in 1998, has rubbished these allegations, saying he remains loyal to the PKR founder.
Mahathir has also denied interfering in PKR's elections.
Should Azmin decide to defend his deputy president post, he would face current vice-president Rafizi Ramli, who is known to be pro-Anwar and had joined PKR after being inspired by the reformasi movement.
Rafizi had described the possible showdown with Azmin as one between "career politicians and reformists".
Meanwhile, Mansor pointed out that Azmin was at the frontline of the reformasi struggle since 1998, until now.
He said while others chose to focus on building their careers or betrayed the struggle, Azmin remained loyal to Anwar.
"He was not only excellent in the party (administration) but his leadership skills were proven successful when leading Selangor until he is currently appointed the economic affairs minister in the new government.
"Therefore, Penang PKR supports Anwar as president and his best partner is Azmin as deputy president.
"The synergy of these two leaders has proven successful in bringing forward the reformasi agenda and is the best combination to lead the new Malaysia," Mansor added. - Mkini
