PETALING JAYA: The roof of the Bukit Raja toll plaza near Klang collapsed this evening, forcing traffic to come to a standstill.
Based on a video making the rounds on social media, the incident happened around 9.30pm.
The debris was strewn on the road, making it difficult for vehicles to pass through.
A voice on the public address system urged road users to stay away from the toll booths.
While the cause of the incident could not be determined, one social media user said there were strong winds at the time of the incident.
PLUS later took to Twitter to urge drivers to use alternative exits that had been opened up.
Bernama reported that the toll plaza on the NKVE Expressway was closed to all vehicles.
Selangor Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Azman Shariat said the incident caused traffic congestion of about 1km in both directions.
“Vehicles from the Shah Alam direction were diverted to the Setia Alam toll plaza and vehicles from Klang had to make a U-turn. The route from Shah Alam to Klang has been opened with three lanes on the left.
“At present, cleaning work is being carried out by the PLUS Malaysia Bhd,” he said in a statement here.
PLUS, in a statement, said a portion of the ceiling at the Bukit Raja toll plaza had collapsed due to a storm, causing it to be inaccessible.
The statement added that PLUS’s initial investigation revealed no casualties were reported, involving its personnel or expressway users, at the toll plaza.
PLUS also advised the public to follow the PLUSTrafik twitter service for the latest traffic information at the Bukit Raja toll plaza. -FMT
