ROSMAH’S DAY OF RECKONING COMES: NO TAXES PAID, NO IMPORT PERMIT – ONLY HER SIGNATURE ON RECEIPT FOR RM60 MILLION JEWELLERY

KUALA LUMPUR: The Finance Minister will leave the police to conduct their investigation into the 44 pieces of jewellery linked to Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.
Lim Guan Eng also confirmed that no taxes were paid for the jewellery by the wife of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak when the items were brought into the country.
“According to the Customs Department’s data, there was no import permit under the Pekan MP’s wife’s name.
“If there was no import permit, then the Customs Department can confiscate the items,” he said while wrapping up the Customs (Amendment) Bill 2018 in Parliament on Thursday (Aug 9).
It was reported that a jewellery wholesaling company in Lebanon had filed a suit against Rosmah over a consignment of “missing jewellery”.
It is seeking a mandatory order for the 44 jewellery, amounting to US$14.79mil (RM59.83mil), to be returned.
The Lebanese firm claimed that Rosmah confirmed the receipt of the 44 items in a letter dated May 22.
However, Rosmah in her statement of defence filed on July 23, denied that she had bought the jewellery.
The jewellery were among the money, jewellery, luxury handbags and watches, worth an estimated RM1.1bil which were seized from the premises linked to Najib last month.
