SARAWAK SHAKES: 6 MPs, 3 ASSEMBLYMEN TO DUMP ABANG JO’S ‘WEAK LEADERSHIP’, FORM NEW PARTY ALIGNED WITH HARAPAN – REPORT

KUCHING – Talk is rife that three assemblymen from the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) are planning to leave the coalition.
A source has revealed that things were heating up within a faction in the coalition, and word on the ground is that the three assemblymen were the latest in a number of elected representatives from GPS who wanted to jump ship.
On Saturday, Berita Harian reported about six Members of Parliament from GPS who were claimed to be quiting Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) to join a new party known as Parti Pribumi Sarawak (PRIBUMI). PPB is part of the ruling GPS coalition in Sarawak.
These claims were highlighted in a Facebook page, which was believed to belong to a Parti Pribumi Sarawak (PRIBUMI) member.
The source said that three GPS assemblymen have expressed their intention to leave the coalition after the six MPs had made known their intention to do so.
Berita Harian has learnt that out of the total six MPs and three assemblymen (total nine elected representatives), seven of them are from PBB while the remaining two are from Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS).
The source said the nine elected representatives had lost their confidence towards the GPS top leadership, particularly PBB, which is the largest party in the GPS.
“As the most dominant party, PBB has been administrating Sarawak for more than 50 years but they have failed to lead the state to success.
“The six MPs and three assemblymen are ready to leave and join PRIBUMI as a new platform for their struggles,” said the source, who claimed to be spokesman from PRIBUMI.
He said the newly-formed party would join forces with another four political parties, including Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), which was spreading its wings to Sarawak.
“The move to combine these party was to ensure all these parties remain under the Pakatan Harapan (PH).
“As such, the political scenario in Sarawak is going to see a lot of change and it is going to be interesting in the next state polls,” he said.
When contacted on Saturday, GPS secretary-general Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi said he was unaware about the intention of any elected representatives who wanted to quit the coalition. He said he was also unaware about the existence of any new party known as PRIBUMI.
“I did not receive any information. This is the first time I heard about it,” he said.
