‘THE ENTIRE CABINET WAS USELESS, THEY KEPT QUIET WHEN THE WHOLE WORLD KNEW ABOUT NAJIB’S CORRUPTION’: DAIM ON WHY BN FELL, SAYS IN THE DARK ABOUT BEING APPOINTED AS ADVISER TO NEW GOVT

DAIM Zainuddin said he has no idea if he will be made a government adviser once the work of the Council of Eminent Persons (CEP) is over.
The CEP chairman said he had not heard of such news.
“I’ve not heard about that,” he told reporters at the sideline of a gathering of students at the Malaysian Student Leaders Summit XII in Kuala Lumpur today.
The CEP has a mandate of 100 days since the new government was formed to complete its work reviewing national issues and making recommendations Putrajaya.
A recent report by The Star Online said the former finance minister would be made an adviser for a limited period to help new ministers in dealing with the civil administration.
A source told the news portal that Daim, who served under Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad previously, would be made adviser because of his experience in the civil service as well as the private sector that spanned careers in law, banking and business.
Dr Mahathir set up the CEP as a body to advise the government on areas that needed change and reform.
When asked about CEP’s report and recommendations to the government, Daim said it would be completed soon and passed to Dr Mahathir.

All yes men, cabinet useless in BN government, says Daim

THE biggest mistake the previous Barisan Nasional (BN) government made was having too many “yes men” in the administration, said Daim Zainuddin.
The Council of Eminent Persons (CEP) chairman said there was too much apple-polishing, which left the leadership thinking everything was fine in government.
“The major problem was there were too many ‘yes men’ around. All were just apple polishing (ampu).
“We all knew the previous government was corrupt. The cabinet was completely useless. They were all yes men,”   said Daim told students at the Malaysian Student Leaders Summit XII in Kuala Lumpur today.
The former finance minister said everyone was silent even though the whole world knew about the corruption that took place under the previous administration.
He added that the leaders should always prioritise the people instead of their own self.
Daim then thanked the people whom he claimed was “brave enough” to change the government in the recent 14th general election.
“Don’t allow the ‘rakyat’ to reject you. Always put priority to rakyat and nation, and not yourself,” he added.
GE14 saw the shocking defeat of BN, which was in power for 60 years.
