CAMERON POLLS | Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad is scheduled to hit the campaign trail for the Cameron Highlands by-election on Jan 25, a day before voters cast their ballots.
Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng, who revealed this, is hoping that the Pakatan Harapan chairperson's presence would boost support for the coalition.
“We are placing our 'harapan' (hope) on him,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama.
However, the DAP secretary-general, who was speaking to reporters at an event in Kuala Lipis, Pahang, said Mahathir's itinerary has not been finalised.
Also present were Pahang PKR chairperson Fuziah Salleh and Harapan candidate for the Cameron Highlands by-election M Manogaran.
Meanwhile, Fuziah said Harapan would focus on the Jelai state constituency, which is a BN stronghold represented by Pahang Menteri Besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail.
Apart from Mahathir, other big names scheduled to canvass for votes are Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and Economic Affairs Minister Azmin Ali.
Manogaran would be facing BN candidate Ramli Mohd Nor and two independents.
In the last general election, BN's C Sivarraajh from MIC defeated Manogaran with less than 600 votes.
Last November, the Election Court nullified the results and declared the seat vacant due to corrupt practices. -Mkini
