PKR president Anwar Ibrahim has pledged that the needs of the rakyat will be his main priority when he eventually takes over the reins of the country from Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
According to Anwar, resolving the problems faced by the people has been his priority since he was first jailed over the Baling protest in 1974.
"The new government is only 10 months old. I don't know when I will take over. After Mahathir, it will be me.
"In Mahathir's current tenure, he has a lot of problems to resolve. When it is my turn, I will continue (with his work), and will not forget the needs of the rakyat.
"There is no point in me being prime minister if not for taking care of the needs of the rakyat," he told a ceramah in Tanah Merah last night.
Also speaking at the event were Kelantan Pakatan Harapan chief Husam Musa and state PKR leader Mohamad Suparadi Md Noor.
During his speech, Anwar addressed several allegations hurled by the opposition against Harapan, to which he stressed that the present administration is doing what it can for the Malays, Islam and to uphold the Federal Constitution.
"Remember that they ruled for decades, while we have been at the job for only 10 months to resolve problems they left behind.
"But there are those who say we do not protect the constitution.
"I want to ask everyone here: Did we change the policy on language? Did we remove Islam as the religion of the federation? Did we remove Malay special rights? The answer is no." - Mkini
