Attempts continue to confirm Ambank staff, Jho Low correspondence

NAJIB TRIAL | The defence for ex-prime minister Najib Abdul Razak today continued their efforts to establish the existence of correspondence between Ambank's Jalan Raja Chulan branch's relationship manager Joanna Yu Ging Ping and fugitive banker Low Taek Jho, popularly known as Jho Low.
This was the line of cross-examination taken by Najib's counsel Harvinderjit Singh for the fourth prosecution witness Ahmad Farhan Sharifuddin during the sixth day of Najib's SRC International trial today.
Najib is being tried on three counts of criminal breach of trust, three counts of money laundering, and one count of abuse of power in relation to RM42 million of SRC International Sdn Bhd's funds.
Farhan was an investigation officer with Bank Negara's Financial Intelligence and Enforcement Department who led a raid on the Ambank branch in Kuala Lumpur on July 6, 2015.
Last week, Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali allowed the defence's application to compel Farhan to produce in court the items and documents he seized from Yu and banker Krystle Yap, among others.
It was reported that lead defence counsel Muhammad Shafee Abdullah had sought the seized items in order to ascertain whether there were e-mails and transcripts of Yu's and other Ambank staff's communication with third parties, including Jho Low who is still at large.

Today, Farhan testified that he had seized a Blackberry Bold mobile phone from Yu, a Samsung Galaxy 4 smartphone as well as four thumb drives and a one terabyte hard disk drive (HDD) from Yap.
Harvinderjit: You cannot tell us if the four USB thumb drives and the one terabyte HDD contains any communication of Joanna Yu and Krystle Yap with other third parties? Even regarding the Samsung Galaxy, you cannot tell whether it contained the communication?
Farhan: Yes.
Harvinderjit: Is it Shuzai Rizman who can help out with that?
Farhan: Yes.
Harvinderjit: I just wish to know that the search list here is all there is and nothing else. This whole affair has been in bits and pieces (in terms of revelation on what was seized at the raid at Ambank Raja Chulan branch).
Farhan said after forensics were performed on the items seized on Aug 8, 2015, he and Shuzai Rizman, his colleague, had gone to meet a MACC officer, identified as Mohd Nasir, to whom Shuzai Rizman handed a report (on the seized items).
Proceedings will resume tomorrow at noon to allow defence lead counsel Muhammad Shafee Abdullah to attend a Court of Appeal matter.
It is understood that the matter is related to Najib's appeal to disqualify retired federal court judge Gopal Sri Ram from being part of the prosecution in the former premier's 1MDB trial. - Mkini
