BN has managed to edge the Pakatan Harapan coalition in terms of people's satisfaction, according to a poll.
Data unit Kajidata Research Sdn Bhd conducted a monthly phone survey with 9,071 respondents from across all 222 parliamentary constituencies from January to December last year.
Sentiment towards Harapan peaked in June, a month after the 14th general election, at 73.6 points but dropped to 57.2 points by December.
As of December 2018, respondents' satisfaction towards BN surpassed that of the ruling coalition.
From its June high of 67.2 points, the opposition coalition's score fell to 58.2 points by the end of the year.
Respondents were asked to score Harapan and BN between 0 to 100 points for their satisfaction (tahap kepuasan hati) towards both coalitions.
Youth dissatisfaction
In particular, young Malaysians (aged 21-40) appeared to be the group most dissatisfied with the new government.
The segment scored Harapan 76.2 points in June, which was higher than the average. This plunged 22 points to 54.2 in December, lower than the average.
Youth satisfaction with BN also dropped in this period but to a lesser degree. The sentiment towards the former ruling coalition surpassed Harapan by 2.6 points in December 2018 at 56.8 points.
The survey further found that respondents' low confidence in Harapan's management of the economy had dropped even further since May 9.
Scoring it 39.3 points when Harapan came to power in the second quarter of 2018, the coalition's score dropped 6.5 points to 32.8 points in the fourth quarter.
This sentiment was, again, most notable among young Malaysians (aged 20-29) who scored it 29.7 points by the end of the year from a high of 43.5 in the second quarter.
On its website, Kajidata Research describes itself as being an independent market research firm specialising in “public, commercial and socio-political intelligence”.
Based in Petaling Jaya, it is headed by one Redwan Haris. - Mkini
