PUTRAJAYA: Education Minister Maszlee Malik will bring up the matriculation programme issue to the Cabinet for a decision on Wednesday.
Education director-general Amin Senin, in a statement today, said the ministry took seriously various views expressed on the issue.
“We will ensure this matter is handled wisely to arrive at the best solution through proper channels.”
He said the ministry was sticking to its policy of allotting 90% places for the matriculation programme to Bumiputera students and 10% for non-Bumiputeras.
“Furthermore, this year, 60% of the places will be allotted to students coming from the B40 lower-income bracket.”
Amin said there were places for only 25,000 students to undergo the matriculation programme — 22,500 for Bumiputeras and 2,500 non-Bumiputeras.
“The matriculation programme was originally intended only for Bumiputeras,” he added.- FMT
