Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar has rejoined the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), from which she quit last month.
"The structure of the PAC which provides checks and balance is crucial to the country.
"I decided to rejoin the PAC after discussing with Pakatan Harapan chief whip Johari Abdul and getting the approval of Dewan Rakyat Speaker Mohd Ariff Md Yusof," she was quoted saying by Sinar Harian, adding that she will also attend the PAC meeting today, upon the request of the PAC secretariat.
The PKR lawmaker added that the reform agenda should be prioritized in serving the rakyat and the country.
Nurul quit PAC on March 22 due to dissatisfaction with the PAC leadership.
This after PAC chairperson Ronald Kiandee quit Umno and joined Bersatu.
Nurul had insisted that the chairmanship of the PAC must be filled by the opposition to pursue accountability of the executive. Harapan had in its GE14 manifesto, pledged to pick an opposition lawmaker to head the committee.
It is worth noting that Nurul had quit as PKR vice-president citing her ideals and principles, last December.
Today, the government gave in to pressure from the public and lawmakers alike and decided to replace Kiandee with BN Parit Sulong MP Noraini Ahmad.
Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad is expected to move a motion to change the PAC chief, himself. - Mkini
