Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) shut down two dirty eateries along Jalan SS15/4 during an operation at the Subang Jaya commercial area.
The two-day operation that ended yesterday involved 30 officers from MPSJ’s health, licensing, enforcement, environmental management as well as building departments.
The two eateries were found to have major cleanliness violations, including having cockroach droppings, and were ordered to close for 14 days to clean up their premises.
A total of 19 premises were inspected on Thursday and 25 yesterday.
Six premises were found to have been operating without a valid licence and another six were issued notices for various violations.
Nineteen were given notices to clean up their premises and three were issued compounds under the MPSJ Food Establishment By-law 2007 and MPSJ Trade, Business and Industrial By-law 2007.
Restaurants will be shut down if the premises are filthy and get a score of below 65%.
“If we find cockroach and rat droppings, we will shut down the premises.
“Operators should engage pest control services to keep their premises clean,” said MPSJ Health Department director Dr Roslan Mohamed Hussin.
The department carries out such operations a few times a month based on public complaints and once a week with the collaboration of other departments, he added.
“The inspections not only involve cleanliness but also include checks on illegal extensions and licensing aspects.”
Dr Roslan said as of March this year, 600 eateries were inspected and 12 ordered closed.
“After the 14-day period, we will continue to check if the establishments adhere to cleanliness guidelines,” he added.- Star
