COA yet to decide on Najib's bid to disqualify Sri Ram

The Court of Appeal is expected to make a decision on the bid by former premier Najib Abdul Razak to disqualify Gopal Sri Ram from leading the prosecution team in his 1MDB cases, by May 14.
The proceeding of Najib's appeal hearing began about 9am today and ended at 1.15pm.
It was heard by a panel of three judges, led by Zabariah Mohd Yusof. The two others were Rhodzariah Bujang and Lau Bee Lan.
As a result of the hearing, the Najib's trial at the Kuala Lumpur High Court, pertaining to corruption charges involving SRC International funds, had to be postponed to after 2.30pm.
On March 1 this year, High Court judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah dismissed Najib's application to disqualify Sri Ram, the former Federal Court judge appointed as senior deputy public prosecutor.
He found there was no evidence to show that Sri Ram would be biased in handling the case.
Following the ruling, Najib's lead counsel Muhammad Shafee Abdullah had told the court that they were going to file an appeal against the decision with the Court of Appeal.
Shafee told reporters later that he had requested for the court to grant a stay on Najib's 1MDB-related trials pending the appeal to be heard by the higher court.
Najib had applied to the court to disqualify Sri Ram, who was appointed by Attorney-General Tommy Thomas as the senior deputy public prosecutor to lead the prosecution against him. - Mkini
