Dummy test shows Adib could have been hit by van door, says expert

SHAH ALAM: A forensic expert told the inquest into Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim’s death that his experiment of pushing a mannequin to the side of the medical van passenger’s door resulted in a similar pattern of “injuries” as that on the late fireman’s right chest.
Dr Shahrom Abd Wahib, a former Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (HUKM) pathologist, said following the test, he came up with the theory that Adib had been hit on his chest by the passenger door of the emergency medical rescue service (EMRS) van.
Shahrom said he used an orange mannequin to conduct the experiment.
“When I conducted the experiment by pushing the mannequin to the side of the van’s door, I found that the imprint on the mannequin was similar to injuries on the deceased’s right chest.
“Although the print marks were not perfect like Adib’s injuries, they looked almost the same,” he said.
Shahrom was responding to inquest conducting officer Hamdan Hamzah’s question about the experiment.
The former lecturer refuted the theory put forward by Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) pathologists that Adib had sustained the right chest injuries from a fall, after the fireman was said to have been hit by the van’s door.
“Based on the reconstruction video by HKL and police, there is nothing along the roadside to suggest there was a curb that would have been able to create this injury,” Shahrom said.
But he admitted that different pathologists might have their own opinions about the injuries.
The inquest continues on April 19 before coroner Rofiah Mohamad. - FMT
