Exco reiterates Harapan's support after leaked audio berating Perak MB

Perak exco Asmuni Awi has reiterated Pakatan Harapan's backing for Ahmad Faizal Azumu, after a leaked audio recording emerged berating the Perak menteri besar.

"I've not heard the audio. I'm waiting and hope that someone will send it to me. I thought it was an old recording, but apparently it is new. 

"But in the government, we in Amanah, PKR, as well as DAP stand firmly behind the menteri besar," the state Amanah chief told Malaysiakini when contacted.

In the four-minute and 22-second clip, which has been circulating on social media since Wednesday, an individual is heard accusing Faizal of taking "ice" – crystal methamphetamine – and not fulfilling his obligations as a Muslim.

The individual also claimed that he is on good terms with the Perak palace, and suggested that he could replace Faizal.

DAP Tebing Tinggi assemblyperson and exco Abdul Aziz Bari had denied that he was the man in the audio recording.

Yesterday, Faizal said he had yet to hear the audio clip, but stressed that the Perak government was running smoothly.

Asmuni also addressed being singled out in the recording, along with Faizal, for allegedly being late to meetings.

"The issue of the menteri besar being late does not arise, as we have morning briefings to attend.

"I too am sometimes late to the Perak state assembly sitting, sometimes we need to go out for other meetings and the like.
