Forensic experts in Adib inquest lodge police report on alleged threat

Two forensic experts who testified in the inquest into the death of firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim have lodged a police report on alleged threats made against them.

In a statement late last night, Selangor CID chief SAC Fadzil Ahmat said the two doctors - both specialist doctors from the Forensic Department of the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) - lodged the report about 9.28pm at the Subang Jaya police station.

"The case has been classified under Section 189 of the Penal Code that concerns threat of injury to a public servant.

"No further statements will be made since the inquest is ongoing," said Fadzil, without mentioning any names in the statement nor did he specify what those threats were.

So far, two forensic experts from HKL have testified in the inquest - namely the hospital's forensic department head Dr Mohd Shah Mahmood and its medical forensic specialist, Dr Ahmad Hafizam Hasmi.

Both of them have reportedly argued that Adib had by his own volition come out of the Fire Department's Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) van through the front left passenger side, was hit from the back by the reversing vehicle’s open front left passenger door, which sent him hurtling forward and landed on his chest on a roadside curb.

Other experts, however, had pointed out several contradictions in their report.

Adib, a member of the Subang Jaya Fire and Rescue Department's EMRS unit was seriously injured in a rioting incident at the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, in USJ 25, Subang Jaya on Nov, 27 last year, and died on Dec 17 at the National Heart Institute.

Some quarters have alleged that he was beaten by a protesting mob. An inquest is being carried out before coroner Rofiah Mohamad to ascertain the cause of his death. - Mkini
