Goldsmith shop manager shot dead in heist at hypermarket

SERDANG: A goldsmith shop manager was shot dead by robbers in a jewellery heist at a hypermarket in Seri Kembangan here on Friday (April 19).

In the 7.13pm incident, three men wearing full-face helmets burst into the store waving pistols.

When the store manager, 28, did not respond to their demands quickly enough, they shot him in the chest.

“He died instantly. The three robbers along with an accomplice, who was waiting outside the hypermarket, carted away four trays of jewellery on two motorcycles,” said Selangor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Fadzil Ahmat when met later at the scene.

The only other employee at the shop, a woman, was unharmed.

The whole incident was over in under three minutes.

“We have recovered the bullet casing of a semi-automatic pistol and are trying to track down the suspects,” he said.

Police are checking CCTV footage at the scene to determine the identity of the robbers.

The value of the stolen jewellery is still being determined.
