Muhyiddin considering possibility of EGM to oust Mahathir

“While it is true that the party president has the power to remove Mahathir without an EGM, doing so may have dire repercussions as Mahathir could easily trigger the exodus of almost 15 MPs from PPBM to Amanah” – RJ Rithaudeen

TTF: A news report has surfaced claiming that Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was offered the position of Prime Minister by an influential individual (see news item below).

For the record, Muhyiddin was offered the post of Prime Minister not once, but seven times prior to the 14th general election.

Back when Pakatan Harapan was yet undecided on who to name Prime Minister, Muhyiddin’s closest aides were displeased that Mahathir was pushing for Dato’ Seri Mukhriz Mahathir to be named deputy premier.

Accordingly, they felt that Muhyiddin’s efforts to sabotage several UMNO leaders since 2009 were not appreciated by Mahathir and that the old man was treating Muhyiddin like a lap dog.

For the record, it was at Mahathir’s behest that Muhyiddin architected Dato’ Seri Mohd Ali Rustam’s disqualification from the 2009 UMNO election and Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak’s downfall from government.

Not many are aware, that prior to Mahathir’s involvement in the 1MDB scandal, Muhyiddin became the first government leader to be approached by members of an international group led by former British premier Tony Blair on the possibility of launching a global media campaign against Najib and 1MDB.

I am told, after having been promised a lot of money, Muhyiddin approached Mahathir and told him that it was worthwhile banging Najib on allegations of fraud and power abuse.

However, in June 2016, Muhyiddin discovered that Mahathir had Mukhriz in mind as deputy president of a new party he (Muhyiddin) was supposed to lead.

In the months that followed, Muhyiddin’s men found out about a secret little pact Mahathir had quietly entered with Lim Kit Siang.

According to the pact, Mahathir was to be named Prime Minister while Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail  would be made his deputy.

It is said that Kit Siang agreed for there to be two deputy premiers, with Mukriz, not Muhyiddin, serving as deputy number two.

Upon discovering this, Muhyiddin reportedly instructed his men to sabotage Mukhriz, Syed Saddiq and every other event that was organised by PPBM youth.

However, in August 2017, Muhyiddin had a tough time convincing a few of his men not to demand that he be named Pakatan’s PM candidate.

He assured them that the time would come when he would make his move to oust Mahathir.

That time is now.

Muhyiddin is well aware of an attempt by Mahathir to kick him out from PPBM.

He’s taking no chances and is said to be busy rounding up his men for a possible Emergency General Meeting to seek Mahathir’s sacking from the party.

While it is true that the party president has the power to remove Mahathir without an EGM, doing so may have dire repercussions as Mahathir could easily trigger the exodus of almost 15 MPs from PPBM to Amanah.

As such, the EGM is to facilitate a vote of no confidence against Mahathir on the pretext that the old man, if not removed, would strain ties between PPBM, the Federal Government and the Malay Rulers to the point of no return.

KUALA LUMPUR, April 26 — Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was once offered the position of prime minister by an influential individual, his special functions officer Marzuki Mohamad revealed today.
Marzuki said many members of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) felt the Home Minister was qualified to assume the position and had also approached the latter for his stand on it.
“I recall back in the early days when Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders were about to name Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as a candidate for the prime minister post, Bersatu had yet to make an official stand on it,” Marzuki posted on his official Facebook page.
“Members of Bersatu asked me how Muhyiddin felt about being named as a candidate as they felt, he too was qualified to be the next prime minister.
“As we were in the midst of forming the government after May 9, an influential individual offered the prime minister’s position to Muhyiddin but he turned it down out of respect and also because of a promise made, to make Dr Mahathir the prime minister if PH won,” the post read.
Marzuki’s post was in response to former PAS man Tamrin Abdul Ghafar, who wrote an article entitled “Jika Tak Nak Bantu Jangan Jadi Hantu” which translates to “If You Don’t Want To Help Don’t Be a Ghost.”
Marzuki claims the article portrayed Muhyiddin as power hungry and trying to hinder Mahathir from becoming the next prime minister.
He however insisted that Muhyiddin was the first person to tell Bersatu supreme council members to name Dr Mahathir as their official candidate for the prime minister position.
“I don’t recall when Tamrin was in Bersatu. Maybe because he wasn’t in it.. he doesn’t know its real history,” Marzuki wrote.
“It was Muhyiddin who insisted and was firm about Dr Mahathir being selected as the candidate for prime minister.
“So let’s stop wasting time with these political games. Give the party leaders their time and space to focus on defending the people because that is the real reason the people chose PH as their government,” he said. -MM
