KUALA LUMPUR: The trial of former prime minister Najib Razak resumes tomorrow on charges relating to RM42 million in funds belonging to SRC International Sdn Bhd, with his lawyers cross-examining the first witness, an assistant registrar of companies.
Muhammad Akmaludin Abdullah, 35, of Companies Commission of Malaysia, had given evidence on the first day of the trial on Apri 3 about the registration of three companies.
These were SRC International Sdn Bhd, then a fully-owned subsidiary of state-owned 1Malaysia Development Berhad, with a capital of RM1 million; Gandingan Mentari Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of SRC International, with a capital of RM1,000; and Ihsan Perdana Sdn Bhd, with RM2 share capital listed as handling the corporate social responsibility matters for Yayasan 1MDB.
The hearing was adjourned at the end of the first day, with the trial scheduled to continue from April 15 until May 10.
Najib, 66, is accused of three counts of criminal breach of trust, one charge of abusing his position and three counts of money laundering, alleged to have been committed between 2011 and 2015.
Before the trial was adjourned on April 3, defence counsel Harvinderjit Singh had asked Muhd Akmaludin for additional company registration documents, and details of a company named Yayasan Rakyat 1Malaysia.
Harvinderjit will continue his cross-examination of Muhd Akmaludin tomorrow.
The hearing is before High Court Judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali. - FMT
