No one is exempt from the law, says Anwar

SEREMBAN: PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (pic) says no one is exempt from police investigations if they are in the wrong, even if the wrongdoers came from within Pakatan Harapan.
He said this in urging police investigations into racist banners spotted in Rantau on Saturday (April 6), urging voters not to vote for a candidate of Indian descent.
Barisan Nasional has claimed that Pakatan Harapan candidate Dr S. Streram's campaign manager Karunesh Uthaya Kumaran was the mastermind behind the banners.
This prompted Karunesh to file a police report on Saturday night (April 6) about the accusation, which he said he found out via WhatsApp messages sent to him by the media.
"Let the police take action if it's true. It doesn't matter who is in the wrong, even if it comes from Pakatan. Let the police investigate," Anwar told reporters at Kampung Sega near here Sunday (April 7).
He added that the police must conduct impartial investigations, including against Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan for the 2008 case where the latter allegedly violated banking laws by transferring RM10mil to London via a money changer.
This was brought up in a ceramah Saturday night (April 6) by Negri Sembilan state assembly speaker Zulkefly Mohamad Omar.
"The police must take action. Just like the report that Mohamad sent RM10mil to London, the police must conduct an investigation," said Anwar.
Meanwhile, Karunesh, a company director, said the claims that he was the one behind the racist banners were an attempt to smear his reputation.
Karunesh said he was targeted because he was a staunch supporter of Dr Streram and also his campaign manager for Rantau.
"They want to smear my image as a politician and businessman. I strongly deny my involvement.
"They should practise healthy politics and compete in the right manner. Don't slander those who are not at fault. If they have proof, then show it," said the 36-year-old.- Star
