ONLY STANDARD 6 SCHOOLING, YET NEW JOHOR EXCO IN CHARGE OF STATE ISLAMIC RELIGIOUS AFFAIRS: SURELY JOHOR & ISLAM CAN DO BETTER

ISKANDAR PUTERI: He had only made it up to Standard Six but the fact that he only has a primary school education has never been a setback for Tosrin Jarvanthi in carrying out his responsibilities as an elected representative.
The new Johor Islamic Religious Affairs, Agriculture and Rural Development Committee chairman had the attention of the media when he was candid in admitting that he only had studied up to Standard Six.
“I say frankly I am not lying. I have no certificates, no diploma.
“I attended SK Ladang Fraser and SK Pengkalan Rinting (both in Johor),” said Tosrin, adding that he would discharge the duties entrusted to him with commitment and dedication.

The political veteran who was once Sedili assemblyman and now representing Bukit Permai is one of three new faces in the revamped Johor state executive council (exco) lineup.
Claiming to be “still young”, the 69-year-old said he had previously worked with a group of young officers who were not able to catch up with him and his work style.
As proof that he was proactive, he said he was already planning a framework under his portfolio to ensure he could provide the best services to the people, he told reporters after a press conference on the appointment of the executive councillors at the menteri besar’s office.
Tosrin, of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, served as special officer to Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin when the latter was deputy prime minister.
Meanwhile, Tenang assemblyman Mohd Solihan Badri, also from Bersatu, described the mandate given to him as challenging, saying he would do his best to carry out his duties.
Solihan, 62, who has a Social Science degree from Universiti Sains Malaysia, is the new state Works, Infrastructure and Transportation Committee chairman, replacing Puteri Wangsa assemblyman Mazlan Bujang.
He said he would continue and build on the work carried out by his predecessor.
Jementah assemblyman Tan Chen Choon, 49, meanwhile, has been entrusted with the Local Government, Urban Wellbeing and Environment portfolio.
He said his experience in various fields, including being an engineer in a private company, would help him discharge his duties effectively.
Tan, who is Johor DAP vice-chairman, said he was grateful to his party and Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal who had entrusted him to serve in the state exco.
