PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan can no longer use 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) as an excuse for not fulfilling its pre-election pledges, says MCA.
Its president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said this was because Pakatan had acknowledged that 1MDB was very profitable and played an important role in developing the nation.
Pakatan confirmed that 1MDB was not the reason for Malaysia's financial woes when its leaders spoke in favour of 1MDB projects such as Bandar Malaysia and the Tun Razak Exchange (TRX), said Dr Wee.
"PM (Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad) said the Bandar Malaysia project, which is worth RM140bil, could help the currency to rise and develop the nation.
"Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said that the TRX project, which is also from 1MDB and worth RM40bil, was one of the country's best efforts.
"When added up, both are worth RM180bil. It's more than enough to settle the debt of RM30bil.

"This means that Pakatan has confirmed that 1MBD is not the reason Malaysia is bankrupt and the future generation will be burdened," he said in a statement Sunday (April 21).
The Ayer Hitam MP added that Pakatan had lied to the people for years by using 1MDB as their main argument.
However, Dr Wee said, with recent statements on Bandar Malaysia and TRX by Pakatan leaders, the people hoped that the government will no longer resort to these lies.
On Friday (April 19), Dr Mahathir announced that the Bandar Malaysia project which was halted after Pakatan came into power as the federal government after the May 9 general election last year, would be reinstated.
The project, which has an expected gross development value (GDV) of RM140bil, would be revived with some changes, said Dr Mahathir.- Star
